GENx6-96
word/superclock generator
Dedicated word clock devices have been on the professional recording
scene for some time now. Much has been written and discussed about
the importance of such a device within the context of a modern recording
studio. Many people agree that a stable clock can dramatically improve
the fidelity and recording quality of everything from individual component
parts to the most well known digital audio workstations (DAW). It
is an essential component in any system relying on digital interconnect
schemes to route signals between devices. Lucid introduces an extremely
stable, and flexible, low jitter external clock at a breakthrough
price point. The GENx6-96 is capable of generating 4 clock frequencies:
44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz. These clock frequencies make it compatible
with contemporary and future recording products. The GENx6-96 can
deliver clock streams to as many as 6 discrete devices through individual
outputs. Digidesign Pro Tools users will appreciate the implementation
of the superclock format, and will be especially pleased to see that
it can easily be assigned on a per-output basis. There is now a simple,
elegant, straightforward solution for synchronizing superclock and
word clock devices together in the studio. Additionally, the GENx6-96
can also act as a distribution amplifier. It features two inputs that
support AES sync, word clock, or superclock. Signals present at the
input will be passed along to any or all of the 6 outputs. External
clocking makes a huge difference in both digital recording and playback.
Many people are unaware of the impact until it is demonstrated, and
then they notice the difference immediately. ÒSmootherÓ is the comment
most often heard to describe audio being clocked by a Lucid device.
One often notices more definition of both low and high frequency transients.
Basses seem to tighten up, snare attacks are sharper, jangly guitars
are, well, janglier. Vocals, strings, horns; as the density of a mix
increases, the clocking becomes more and more critical. Ambient and
spatial cues become more identifiable, which lends depth and detail
to a mix. The GENx6-96 is designed to suit the audio studio in need
of a solid synchronization solution for as many as 6 digital audio
devices. Used in conjunction with the other Lucid distribution products,
the GENx6-96 can be part of a scalable clock solution that is able
to meet the needs of a wide variety of audio systems.
